2. Implementation of the SHANAKHT Program (empowering PWDs)

Introduction:

The Life Changing Foundation (LCF) commenced its operations under the SHANAKHT program on February 2nd, 2023, with the objective of supporting Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in obtaining essential documentation for their recognition and empowerment. This report outlines the progress and achievements made by LCF in facilitating the development of disability cards and Special Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) for PWDs in collaboration with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD) of the Government of Sindh and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) of the Government of Pakistan.

Program Activities and Achievements:

Since the initiation of the SHANAKHT program, LCF has undertaken the following activities and achieved significant milestones:

  1. Registration of PWDs: A total of 1385 PWDs have been registered with LCF for facilitation services. This includes 921 males, 551 females, and 13 children with disabilities.
  2.  Development of Disability Cards: LCF facilitated the development of disability cards for registered PWDs in collaboration with the DEPD, Government of Sindh. These disability cards serve as official recognition of the disabilities of individuals, enabling them to access specialized services and support tailored to their needs.
  3. Assistance with Special CNICs: LCF worked closely with NADRA, Government of Pakistan, to assist PWDs in obtaining Special CNICs based on their disability certificates. These specialized CNICs are crucial for PWDs to access various governmental and non-governmental services and benefits.
  4. Pick and Drop Facilities: To ensure equitable access to documentation services, LCF provided pick and drop facilities to beneficiaries. This initiative aimed to eliminate transportation barriers and enable PWDs to visit government offices and other relevant institutions to acquire their disability cards and CNICs.

Outcome:

As a result of our concerted efforts, a total of 1385 CNICs and disability certificates have been successfully processed to relevant departments for development, from which 328 disability certificates and SCNICs has been successfully hand overed to PWDs.  These documents represent a significant step forward in empowering PWDs and facilitating their inclusion in society. Further more LCF remains committed to its mission of advocating for the rights and well-being of PWDs. Through the SHANAKHT program, we will continue to collaborate with government agencies, stakeholders, and partners to expand our reach and impact, ensuring that PWDs receive the support and resources they need to thrive.
